I'm a little more lax than you though. It's kind of impossible to find someone I'm attracted to PERIOD- nevermind that I'd hope they'd be veg. and a nonsmoker. I don't expect someone to change their values for me anymore than I would for them. But I think longterm it WOULD really start to bother me. I don't mind living with omnivores. My roomies now are. But I have my own pans and tupperware and make sure everything is washed well cuz meat residue is freaking gross.

It's just a wonder nobody's snapped you up yet.

mondai wrote:ok so goongirl can be a bitch at times and we all know what a spaz GG1 can be but seriously Rin and narniaru just sound like complete retards here. "I won't kiss someone who eats meat" "I won't cook meat for someone" etc etc.
When you grow up and become an dadult and have a relationship you might find your partner does some things differently to you. You can kick your feet and demand they change or break up with them if you want, or you can just accept them for who they are. D'ya think if GG1 got a divorce tomorrow her husband would eat any more or any less meat than he already does?
You both also sound like the kind of vegetarians who, (sorry slops) give vegetarians a bad name.
rinnetensei wrote:And I really don't see what the big deal is, refusing to cook meat for someone. If you were allergic to shellfish or something you wouldn't go around cooking it for your significant other simply because he/she likes it. It's my personal choice and someone else can meet me there or not. Fvck em otherwise. Like I said before, I could care less if they wanna cook their own meat.

the point was more about you giving GG1 shit for buying/cooking meat because it violates your values (as opposed to hers). and the shellfish allergy thing is a red herring. "i won't cook meat for you because i don't like it" and "i won't cook shellfish for you because doing so might kill me" are completely different issues. GG1 cooking meat for her husband won't kill her.
rinnetensei wrote:Yeah, I understand that her doing that doesn't bother her. I don't know why cuz, as a fellow veg., I couldn't do it.
It would cause me bodily harm to have to do that. Mentally, not physically, but same difference.
rinnetensei wrote:Yeah, I understand that her doing that doesn't bother her. I don't know why cuz, as a fellow veg., I couldn't do it.
Okay, what I mean by the allergy comparison is that by touching or cooking meat- for me- that isn't just a case of 'Eww, I don't like it." It would cause me bodily harm to have to do that. Mentally, not physically, but same difference.
mondai wrote:Some eat chicken and call themselves vegetarians.
mondai wrote:the "as a fellow veg" is where you are going wrong.
try to understand that not everyone is veg for the same reasons. My sister hates the taste of meat, the look and the texture and so she is a veg. I'm more concerned about meat production and enviromental effects, I personally love the taste of meat (just don't eat it).
Calling vegetarianism "your beliefs" sounds a bit weird to me, somewhat religious. You won't 'convert' anyone by preaching, -rather by leading by example. Being a holier than thou vegetarian will just turn people off -you're challenging their lifestyle after all and telling them they're bad people.
Besides, most vegetarians are utter cheats. Some eat fish, some eat eggs, but not fish eggs. Some eat chicken and call themselves vegetarians. I wouldn't call wearing leather cheating but what about whey protien (in many biscuits) wine and beers (I still drink them -thanks!), most hard cheese, things with gelatine, almost every kind of dashi and sauce in Japan. Creating an arbritary line among all this (and most of us do) and then castigating other people seems somewhat hypocritical.

They then claim every benefit they see to cutting meat. They pay no attention to the confounding variables of less refined food like white bread & and more whole grain foods like bread with nuts and seeds. They cut out refined sugar, and often alcohol and smoking as well. With so many changes, it's difficult to pin any changes down to a single variable. I suspect that going whole grain, along with the removal of refined sugar from the diet, and a focus on fresh produce as opposed to refined foods would be helpful to any diet, whether it included meat or not.

this is what I like to call a sloppy argument (as in the poster). You create a weird notional enemy and then attack it. You imbibe the enemy
Sloppy wrote:My wife and I both have the day off, so we just went to this mafia meat outlet in the crappy shooting gallery city down the river.
We bought:
* an 8 lb hickory smoked ham
* a bunch of big lamb shoulder chops
* some ground lamb
* 2 Cornish game hens
* 2 rabbits
* a bunch of ground pork and pork chops
* a bunch of nice marbleized assorted (beef) steaks
* a 7 lb corned beef brisket
* some pancetta
* a bunch of Italian sweet sausage
* some ground turkey
and some other shit that I probably left out,
...all for less than $70 bucks! The shit will last us months. Just divided it all up and wrapped it in freezer paper- filled our f*** freezer to the hilt.
Enjoy your lentil rice burgers!
